Dr. Braun: Biography
Before founding WEMANITEC, Dr. Braun most recently served as Managing Director and Member of the Executive Board of BIOTRONIK SE & Co. KG. While in that role, Dr. Braun worked in the area of innovation-driven product portfolio launches and geographic business expansion (in Asia-Pacific and Latin America, for example). He propelled the company to become Europe’s largest privately held medical device company in the cardiovascular arena.
During Dr. Braun’s early years at BIOTRONIK, he served as Vice President of Marketing and Sales and played a key role in growing BIOTRONIK from an early-stage company to a global provider of medical devices for use in cardiology and cardiac surgery.
Prior to his work at BIOTRONIK, Dr. Braun served as General Manager of Chiron Adatomed/Bausch & Lomb and Vice President of Marketing and Sales for Medtronic Europe, Middle East and Africa. He also worked in research and development, applications and sales for Messer Griesheim, a leading provider of high quality gas flame, plasma and laser cutting equipment, and served as a Non-Executive Director of Ilika Plc (also known as Ilika Technologies Ltd.).
Dr. Braun received a PhD in Plasma and Laser Physics from the Technical University in Munich for research work performed at the Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Plasma Physics. During his time at the MPI for Plasma Physics, he was appointed to work as a member of the European Research Group in the area of nuclear fusion.
Dr. Braun has held an Associate Professorship in the Department for Postgraduate Physics at the Universidad Industrial de Bucaramanga in Bucaramanga, Colombia; has held Board of Directors positions with Eucomed and Ilika Plc; and is currently Chairman of the Board of Miracor Medical Systems GmbH.
